Davido (Songs, Blings And Girls) He had always wanted to be a musician, so when he was sent to Oakwood University USA, he seized the opportunity to fulfill his childhood dream. Born in November 21, 1992 as David Adeylekeh in Atlanta, Georgia, in USA, to a Nigerian Billionaire, Mr Adedeji Adelekeh and late Dr Mrs Vero Adelekeh, who was a lecturer in Babcock University and a lover of music before her death in 2003. Davido arrived Oakwood University where he enrolled as a student in the department of Business administration but his discovery of an American school mate, named Jaymo, drew him very close to music production that he forgot what he came to America to do. When Davido shared his aspiration with Jaymo, he got a life changing encouragement from his newly found friend, and the rest was history. Davido spent most of his prep time making beats in his dormitory in the USA and sampling it with his numerous contacts in the Nigerian music circle via the internet.
His grades deteriorated, and he dropped out after three semesters without informing his father. After so many months of not schooling, Davido, now with tattoos and ear piercings, was arrested at the airport by the Nigerian police upon his arrival from overseas on the instruction of his father in 2011. By then, it was obvious that Davido had failed to complete the business management degree for which he was sent to America. After some family meetings and persuasion, Davido, and his father reached a compromise, that he should go back to school to complete his degree before embarking on music as a career. Davido agreed and returned to school, but often snick out of his school residence to hobnob at industry parties and blew off exams to record.
At the age of 23, Davido permanently stayed in Lekki, Lagos Island, living lavishly on imported cannabis, liquor in continual supply and demand, all taking place in a three-story house that accommodates a revolving cast of employees, friends, and hangers-on. Even though life was Lavida Loka, Davido did not take his eyes off the ball. He continued his quest for the peak of the Nigerian music industry, putting in a lot of hard work and time in the studio. Davido’s debut singles were released in 2011, while he was still in school. His first single, Omo Baba Olowoh, generally received negative reviews from music critics, who denounced its lyrical content and Davido’s songwriting skills; but that did not stop the quest for Davido, he continued and got better with time. Breaking into the Nigerian music industry that already has established musicians was not an easy task for Davido. His early days of music saw him working with the likes of Shizzi. Naeto C. GospelOnDeBeatz. and their work, yielded to songs like, Dami Duro, Ekuro, Overseas and many more. Gobeyh, a Shizzi-produced track, was one of Davido’s songs that got many fans dancing in 2013.
Shortly before the COVID 19 pandemic, Daviydo, became the second African solo artist to sell out a concert in O2 Arena in London. Idris Elba was roped in to announce his stage arrival, and he performed several of his big singles with the Compozers as his backup band. Davido has proven his critics wrong, and has really achieved beyond expectations. Davido released Risky, a dance-hall viby track that featured a Jamaican sensation named Popcaan. The song Risky painted a picture of what’s happening in the streets of London in terms of gangster and drug dealing. a join that got fans nodding and singing along.
In May 2020, Davido announced the imminent release of his third studio album, titled, A Better Time. The album Features guest appearances from Lil Baby. Nicki Minaj. and Tiwa Savage, among others. Davido’s Video for his single, titled, FEM, hit 1.8 Million Soundloaded views in less than 24 hours after release, breaking his own record for the fastest Nigerian music video to hit 1 million views on Soundloaded, a record previously held by his own song, Blow My Mind, where he featured Chris Brown.
Holding endorsements with various conglomerates in Nigeria, including, MTN, Infinix Mobile, Martell (cognac), Daviydo has proved to be a man in charge of his destiny, irrespective of the fact that he is the son of a rich man. He has created his dream and is seriously living it. With a worth of about $30 Million he is among the African richest musicians. If not the youngest RICHEST African Musician till date.
