  5. I never liked this movie either. But oddly I enjoyed Mersal though some I hear liked this over Mersal. There was a touch of mystery thatโ€™s missing in this.

  6. You should have watched Thupakki instead of this.
Theri is just a rehash of many cop films and vigilante films with over the top melodrama. Even many Tamil audience will find it melodramatic.

  7. Not at all suprised that you disliked this film. Even for a masala film audience this film is too much over the top in melodrama. You should have watched Thupakki instead.

  8. I don't who suggested Theri to them.
It is a badly written masala film with over the top centiment scenes.
If you want a commercial film with neat screenplay watch Thupakki
If you want masala fun watch Mersal .

  9. Theri didn't have proper screenplay even for masala film standards. It just have one over the top centiment scene one fight pattern for whole film. Bad writing. Mersal had good masala film writing.
If you want good masala film with neat screenplay Watch Thupakki.

  10. I would probably recommend you guys to watch dasavatharam by Kamal Hasan and sivaji the boss by rajinikanth.
If you loved Anniyan then I bet you guys love these films too .
Cuz it was released in the same era .give it a try . I bet you wonโ€™t regret watching these two films โ€ฆ

  11. for a perspective i can give a brief hope it clears as you know particularly tollywood actually did transform from most dramatic cinema only after 2015 untill that most of the movies will be too dramatic and also tollywood was very much inclined to mass masala movies which cinema enthusiast like me didnt like and yeah theri is a mass masala movie and i too didnt like it so the point is that when u look on older vijay movies it would follow the same journer but master was released very recently and it was directed my a young director thus it had the present gen cinema taste so i hope it would make a view and there is too much of hero praising in india so yeah you can argue with their fans eventhough you have valid point they dont listen cuz there are blind fans for most of the mass actors comparing to great actors like kamalhassan but I can tell vijay is great actor with great skills but the way he takes his approach is inclined on masala movies

  12. You guys r spot on. This movie was just below average. It didn't connect well with many. Worked ly because of Vijay commercially. Atlee sometimes drags things way too much in his movies. Here he did it throughout

  13. I also did not like this movie guy, just like plenty other Indians did not like it. Don't listen to the radical fans, they can't take criticism. It's a very basic movie with not much story or fun. I totally relate to you.

  14. Your first reaction i didn't liked till now, main reason is Rick reaction was little bit irritating and disrespectful. He fixed this is not a good movie in starting of the movie itself

  15. It's not the movie you can like if you're not already a fan of typical tamil movie treatment and fan of Vijay, of course there are always exceptions. I'm not a fan of this one either, I watched it only in anticipation of Jawan to see some previous work of Atlee.

And fans of this movie doesn't have to take it personally, it's just not the kind of movie which can enjoyed on its own like RRR or KGF. Those can be watched on their own, without knowing anything about the stars or watching other movies from the industry.

South movies have attracted a lot of coverage because of RRR, Bahubali and KGF but most of the movies are still very old-school south movies, which can not appeal to everyone's sensibility unless you grew up watching these with your family.

I do think Jawan will be better, based on trailer.

  16. Most tamil/telugu top hero movies are theathre experience films…You will enjoy it when watched in theaters with fans…While rewatching, even I had cringed at certian scenes which I enjoy at theatres.

  17. Being Kannadigas, we love Rajni-Kamal, Vijay-Ajith like our own heros.
Vijay is kind of family audience hero.
We prefer Vijay movies if entire family for outing.

  18. Even I don't like these films…. They are just for the vj fans…. Some old movies of vj would be good to watch. Like Shajahan, Thuppaki, Kathi, poove unakaaga. I was surprised you guys liked master. I don't even like that. Hope Leo is gonna be different than usual vj movies.

  19. Even though I like Mersal more many of my friends and family like Theri more than Mersal and Master. I like it too. It came at a time when Vijay was in a desparate need of a blockbuster. A fun fact is that After Theri all Vijay movies were blockbuster even the bad ones. Theri has a simple story but the way it was presented to the masses was extremely attractive. It has a south Indian touch in making.

  20. 17:03 Some people say that out of hate but some of them say that because there is a truth in it. I am from Kerala and my mother tongue is Malayalam but from a very young age onwards I have been seeing Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and English language films. I watched all the films in their respective language and is still watching but many other languages have been covered now. What I am trying to say is that movies in our country represent our culture. As India is a big country we have a diverse culture. After seeing 100s of films from each film industry we will have an idea of their kind of films. But over the years these stereotypes have been broken many times by film industries in our country. But we still have a lot of stereotypical films especially in action genre especially in Tamil and Telugu films. You can connect with it only if you have been a fan of those types of films from a young age onwards. That's why some people keep saying you can't connect with these sort of movies which has lot of regional flavour in its treatment like we do. Whereas we have been seeing Hollywood movies as long as I can remember. Our exposure to world cinema is even more than some of you guys. Because we have been seeing multiple language/diverse films even inside our country as well as outside the country. So if I watch a Malayalam cinema I watch it as a Malayali and If I watch a Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or Hindi cinema I try to watch it as a Tamilian, Telugu speaking guy , Kannadiga or Hindi speaking Guy. Finally a Hollywood film as someone who have been watching their films since I was a child. So for me sometimes I like to see certain kind of films only in Telugu or Tamil Cinema but if I saw same type of film in Malayalam or Hindi cinema I may not like it. I really enjoyed One flew over the cuckoo's nest when I watched it. The same movie was remade in Malayalam as Thalavattam way back in 1986 and it's treatment was completely different. It was a mix of comedy, entertainment and then heartbreak. If you see it you may not like it that's what we are trying to say. I can enjoy my kind of films as well as your kind of films. It is same for many Indians out there.
