#LKS250 #Casio #Keyboard
Hello again and welcome to the Merriam Pianos Soundloaded channel. Today we’ll be looking at something a bit different for the channel as we unbox the 61 note, Casio LK-S250, and see what Stu’s initial thoughts and impressions are.
While you might think a 61 note keyboard like this is built strictly for having fun and playing around, an instrument like this is actually pretty common with all types of pianists who need a supplemental, highly portable piano option.
If this is the first time to the Merriam Pianos channel, please subscribe, we’d really appreciate the support!
Touch Sensitive
Casio says the LK-S250 is touch sensitive, and after getting it out the box and plugged in, I can confirm that this is indeed true. This is a pretty refreshing feature for a 61 note keyboard, and while this doesn’t mean a player is going to develop great piano technique on this instrument, the benefit is that it can be used as a MIDI controller with some control over the velocity.
Interface
The commands and controls are really well laid out – there’s nothing too ambiguous. Volume control and navigating the different tones is super easy.
Tons of Sounds
There’s 400 total tones on here, which is of course a huge amount of variety. The quality of the different tones obviously isn’t great, but when you consider that this instrument costs only $200 CAD, having 400 total tones is great value.
Lesson Mode
There’s a lesson feature with 60 total songs wherein the keys light up indicating the next note to be played. This could be pretty fun for a beginner.
Rhythm Mode
Rhythm mode is essentially an accompaniment feature that adds either a drum track, or full rhythm section backing track. There’s 50 total rhythms, so again, quite a bit of variety here.
Conclusions
The LK-S250 is an all around nice total package, when you consider the price and all of the features you’re getting. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend this or any 61 note keyboard for beginner piano students as you will not be able to develop proper technique. That being said, for folks specifically looking for a super portable 61 note option, the LK-S250 offers a lot of value.

Is it possibile disable lighting key?
Thanks
Is the clicking sound normal?
I bet if I gave you a Rubber Band, a Dixie Cup, and a Popsicle Stick, you could make some terrific sounding music with them! Really enjoy your very common sense reviews, and of course your outstanding playing. Good job all around!
Came for keyboard review, stayed for the sick beats
Is the casiotone ct s195 touch sensitive?
I just ordered the non lighted ones CT-S300 as an impulse buy after seeing this vid! Not planning on learning piano seriously just wanna sing along to something, and your review convinced me!
Can you record the music you create with this? are there any hip hop sounds ?
Great review but I find it amazing that in this era, people are still exalting "weighted keys". It's really an overrated thing nowadays.
Thanks – this was really helpful. Your expression at 11:02 was worth the watch alone!
1 Question!!.. and the Split??
Gotta love how Stu makes a product like this sound so good 😉 Great review as always!
Thankss
Does it work with Synthesia software using iPad / notebook computer, together with Casio keyboard Lighting key is still working?
Really really impressed by your summary. Not just because I agree with it, but you attempted to speak to everyone and to answer everyone's question without them even answering it.
Not only that, but to make the point so succinctly with no floundering or clamoring for words – great work. Keep it up.
I really hope you do a review about the new Casiotone CT-S1
Thank you once again. I appreciate the candid comments about beginners/youths. Grandon will be turning 7 next month. 🙂
With the lighted keys turned off, will battery life last longer when running on AA batteries?
I have those same scissors and great video.
Hi Stu!! Very nice and detailed review once again, also I would like to ask if you would also do a review of the newly released Casiotone CT-S1?
Wot? Casio hasn't changed the drum sounds since the 90s
I aprciate you, reviewing premium piano and low cost piano.Thank you.
We are looking to get a keyboard/ electric piano for our 2 children 10 and 7 (in this price range) Gauge interest and hoping to have it teach them a few things prior to getting lesons.. what would you recommend . My husband insists that it have light up keys and be instructional. :o/ Also where would you put the sheet music with this thing?..lol
I just bought this. It’s nice, but it can’t light up more than 4 keys at the same time. So not great for learning more advanced songs. Is there something wrong with my unit or is that just the way it is? Could you test that out on your unit?
My Aunt has Orderd the Casio CT-200 for my friend and my friend also plays me to!
17:19 I haven't heard a reviewer say this before, and I've watched a lot of reviews of stuff. The most honest review would be made before you know general consensus of something.
Loved your video and positive comments and how you presented it.. with full energy and key points
But does it teach you how to play a keyboard?
You look like you are having a blast! Facial expressions in reaction to some of the quirky tones is golden.
The keys sound noisy, chucky was this simply your mic pick up or did you find the same?
I've just bought this and it's delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to using it.
Why the knocking sound when the keys are pressed, sometimes, otherwise liked, thank's?
Just ordered this thinking it would be ok to start learning. Now I may have to cancel my order. 😳
My very old Casio has Auto Harmonize. Does this? Also, where do you put the music?
I'm turned into 60 and I'm getting an immense appetit for learning new things, and I mean anything, so this kind of keyboards looks fascinating as I have no idea if I will keep playing piano or trying the Mount Blank tour in an electric bike… Certainly drinking alcohol, eating fat and rambling at the local bar is not in my retirement plans. Dear Stu I love your reviews and your mastery as piano player, please keep doing this as you are the inspiration for lots of people that are vested into doing fun and productive things with their free time.
6:27 what is the name of that piece?
Hi, thanks a lot for this video, so helpful. However, I still have some personal questions and advice requests for you. My son is turning 11 this coming Sunday. He's been playing piano for 4 years, in an hour-long collective class every week. He's very soon started to compose, to his level. He's rather prolific, hungry for more. He's asked for his birthday a "synthétiser". Already in itself, it took me days to finally come to the conclusion that it is probably more of a "keyboard" he wants. He wants 61 keys, and is majorly attracted to eighties type synth music. That's what he'd like to play around with. Trying to find the right thing for him is a nightmare. Budget would be about 300€ tops (we are French and live in France). Thanks to you, we've excluded the RockJam which he'd imagined would do the trick. Now we know that, as a non beginner in piano, he'd probably suffer!! That brings me to the safe brands Casio (the model you review here sounds good enough?) and Yamaha, with an equivalent. I haven't found a review of an equivalent from Yamaha. Have you made a video? If not, do you have an idea of an advice of such a product? Do you think this type of keyboard will do the job for him? (Very curious, adventurous, carefree, musically creative and hungry for more). I am the type who prefer to pay a little more, on a rather low budget, and have something that will remain with us longer! If you manage to reply quickly (I'm not just last minute for the birthday, but the more time I've given to this search has led to increasingly more time needed! 😅🥵🤷♀), I'll be hugely grateful! 🙏
I love this review about this awsome keyboard, the acoustic feel to the sound is nice.
thanks, i'll buy one for myself
here in Brazil there is also
How do you program songs into it? I'm in a rare boat. I just want to learn how to play like 5-6 songs by memory so when I go to a local place that has a piano I can play it.
Not a piano?
Great review without writing it off, finding its honest benefits, and showing what it has to offer as first impression, aka non scripted.
Very honest and interesting Thank you
I disagree that it can't be used to learn the piano.
It plays just like a piano as a piano does. So that is all that is needed to learn on.
I got a new piano from best choices products with headset and microphone.
perfect analogy
Hi is 4 simultaneous LEDs on the keyboard enough?
