The genre Afrobeats has come a long way. From its dodgy etymology (origin word: Afrobeat) to its location of christening (London), this catch-all phrase for the current wave of Contemporary West African dance music arising from the geographical hubs — of Lagos, Accra and London —continues to divide the room on what it wants to be called.
This is particularly telling when you listen to industry hands, from record executives to music journalists to the musiciansthemselves.
Almost every Afrobeats musician has taken to calling their brand of music by a different name. Burna Boy calls his brand Afrofusion. Rema, whose hit single ‘Calm Down’ has broken new records for the genre on the Billboard Hot 100, calls his music, Afro-Rave. Love Nwantiti crooner C-Kay calls his Emo-Afrobeats.

Simple the Nigerians realising they can never claim AfroBeatz even though they making it global.., that’s why they trying to branch out.
You forget to mention drill music and trap music coming out from HipHop but people still say their all different genre
Damn we all know it’s all hiphop
As similar as that u can’t even compare any new age afrobeat songs to Fela kuti afrobeats song in Nigeria cause it’s all different we put the Afro to represent africa
So when u hear Afro fusion it means African fusion music
When you hear Afro rave it means African rave music
And when you hear Afro Emo it means African emotional music
So as Afrobeats meaning African beats music
🙏
Ghana media presenters make una try understand that Nigeria musicians is doing this for africa not just for ourself alone
Tell them pls😅

NIGERIAN ARTIST SEE FUTURE NOT PRESENT
Dear Sheldon. since you Ghanaian started claiming the ownership of afrobeat. and #AFROBEAT(S) is being registered by white people on the international level. they are avoiding the milking of their hardwork by foreign investors. so that it will not be like Ghana gold that only colonial powers enjoy

NIGERIA WANT TO DASH YOU AFROBEAT AND AFROBEATS . SO THE OWNERSHIP SHOULD BELONG TO YOU… FARM THIS PART FOR YOURSELF. IT LOOKS LIKE AND INSULT WHEN YOU ALL TAG NIGERIAS IN THE TOPIC EVERYTIME
Have you heard of Afro swing 😂
I dont mind them doing all kinds its still call them afrobeats
I think some of them are creating their own genre, to be recognized in the next generation
What's happening to Afrobeats is that every black man was to be a pioneer. They want to claim they started it first, that their style is unique and different from other black Africans. Instead of pushing Afrobeat's as one genre, they all want their own, out of self centeredness and greediness. Same mentality that our African leaders have. It's also about business. They want to trademark their style, so they can qualify for future earning.
Sheldon is thinking to far…as long as they release bangers to keep the consumers attention. Nothing wrong broadening and coming up with new sub-genres. Now it will become a problem if these sub-genres don't get cult following and the artists not in charge of the sub-genres narratives. So far its new so its will feel like too much but hey as long as it doesn't affect their crafts. Also who be "We" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Don't lump Ghanians in there, they say we didn't create Afrobeats so this got nothing to do with Ghanaians. Let the Ghanaians go back to the drawing board and create another genre cause as a Ghanaian consumer, my playlist is now filled with Nigerian Music. Y'all for do better and let the nigerian artists explore mtchwwww.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 he say na which be Afro imo 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that shit sounds funny to me
