I just discovered Fireboy DML & Asake and decided to do a reaction on the song Bandana. This is my first time ever listening to Afrobeat. I did some research on Fireboy DML before filming this reaction to know where he is from and his genre. Bandana is so catchy. I have never heard anything like it before.

  1. Yea he (fireboy) suffered low self esteem as a kid. Then he discovered he could write, so that became an escape for him. So he started writing poems etc. since about age ten, that's what he meant – "since '06 I've been writing this story…" Yea fireboy is a good one to follow – he brings lyricism to afrobeats which generally is designed to make you dance (afrobeats leans more to the sound, the percussion etc.) But he's trying to change the narrative a little bit, his intention is to make you listen not just to dance so he infuses lyricism and soul into his kind of afrobeat while maintaining elements of his culture like the language and so on. You should definitely listen to his albums LTG, Apollo and playboy. But I have to warn you – playboy deviates a little from his usual kind of sound. It's his most commercial project ever and he experiments a lot on the album too. Banana is off the third studio album. He's worked with Ed Sheeran, Madonna and the likes. Listen to Asake for Fiji music which is a very Authentic African sound I believe. Loved your reaction – when you started dancing, that's when I realised that of a truth, afrobeat is very happy music intended to make one dance.

  12. The song is done In what we call pigeon English in Nigeria.. kind of a street version of English here
    That's why it's a bit hard to understand
