As soon as I got out of the theater to see Avatar the way of water i had to listen to this. I love the Avatar movies. Their really an allegorical world of black and brown indigenous peoples. The main tribe in the first movie has a lot of influences from the Khoisan people of South Africa who are the oldest human ethnic group on earth, the Batwa people of the Congo forest, the Yanomami people of the Amazon forest. The African cultural influences connect to me as a black person, a black man. Even the main character who was paraplegic I connected with because years ago I had an autoimmune disorder that paralyzed my entire body yet I had to learn how to walk and move again and I did. Just like the main character did when he got into his avatar body. One of the few times I saw myself in a white character. Also I talked to some friends about how in Hollywood you'll rarely if ever see anti-colonial violence truly except in the Avatar movies. Not even black panther or wakanda forever had that to much even though i love thise movies too. But the message in the movie just made me feel like when the people stand up there is power in the people and with the ancestors as this song makes feel that way too.
