Would this machine work as a multitrack recorder, say, four stereo tracks recorded separately (I am sort of one man band musician)? 2. Does it have a pedal punch-in option? Hi, I am looking for a new recorder and choosing between Zoom H8 and Tascam X8… I much prefer the Tascam in most ways but after watching your review I noticed instrument level input didnt get a mention… Am I right in thinking this isnt possible with the Tascam??…..

quick question – can you record Direct with instruments like electric guitar (Hi-Z)
WOW this thing is so good. The interface is a game changer. Even a bass player can use it. Only 1 sd card though? There should be 2…always. But you could hook up a phone as a backup.
Q2: What's the best setting for recording gigs? From say….the mosh pit distance or pub gigs or from let's say 15-20m from the stage? Or just go manual and adjust when the bands do their sound checks. Thanks.
Q3: Not one person has recorded a band with the X8. This a bit dis-concerting …I wonder why?

I wish I could find a recorder for the first time in eleven years on youtube that did not distort my voice ,,I use zoom q4 , got q8 and looking at new zoom ,, I just give up Im not putting all that time in to making videos ,,, my attation span is short i want things to happen as I do them ,,,I dont want ,, can I use my zoom cameras with this Tascam ? and can this recorder be used to go back and add tracks over tracks already put down ?
You can get the Zoom H6 for hundreds of dollars less which does basically trhe same thing. Tell me why i'm wrong?

I take it the Voice Recording App (as heard in Demos 1 & 2) automatically sums the two condenser mic signals to mono? The stereo sound doesn’t appear until you’re in Acoustic Guitar recording mode.

With these types of devices, can you record yourself playing guitar, save it, and play it later? im looking for a device to do one thing, and one thing only, if it does additional things thats fine, all i want it to do, is record myself playing riffs, then play them later, for remembering sake. I know i sound pretty dumb right now, but i need it, my brain doesnt work like it should, and i make amazing riffs, then they go into the void forever. its got to stop.

You can't take a freebie from a company and then day you're totally unbiased, humans just don't work that way.
It's a cheap device, pay for it in full, that way you can be honest or at least you don't need to pretend that you will be honest.
If you say anything Tascam thinks isn't what's in their best interest, that will affect your ability to grab new devices for 'review' from them and even if you think you're trying to be honest, it's going to mess with the review.
So, for the sake of your viewers, pay for the products to our review in full and have zero relationship with any manufacturer/distributor etc.

Can you compare the tascam dr 40 vs this. Or just do the evolution of tascam. I got one long time ago and I can't tell if they are different.

I do not like metronomes. Is it possible to record drums in one channel and then while hearing it record in another channel; like on a studio mixer????????
Thanks for sharing Tom. Say I've recorded 6 Chanels at once. Next day I want to play the 6 channel mix back on device. Is this easy to do? Will it remember the whole mix on playback? Or do I have to manually select all of the files?

Hi Tom, are you able to change file names in the unit. The thing I hated about products like the zoom recorders is that when I have a hundred plus recordings, I have no idea what each file is until I play it. It made it painful to rename files. Ideally I’d love to name recordings after I finish recording. Thx.
Hi Tom, can those DSP FX (comp,Eq, lim, gate rev) be used for monitoring only without recording the Fx?
Also can the 4 inputs have different Fx settings on real time, or the Fx works only for 1 input at the time?
In the old days the media was in the form of tape or digital tape . If the power would go down the previous recording before the power cut would still be saved . There is just nothing like it that digital world offers
